Ikigai Ventures to explore opportunities in medical technology
Ikigai Ventures, the €20 million seed-stage venture fund spearheaded by Maltese entrepreneur Eman Pulis, has set its eyes on the fast-growing med-tech sector.
The global pandemic has fuelled a range of new opportunities and expanded needs in the segment, with major themes for investors including improving supply chain resilience and technology for alternative care.
Med-tech attracts investment
According to figures from consultancy firm Bain & Co., investors completed 96 med-tech deals in 2021, up sharply from 55 the prior year and surpassing the previous high of 60 set in 2018. Deal value surged to $40.8 billion from just $3 billion the prior year. Although the 2021 figure was bloated by the Medline deal, which was valued at $34 billion.
Ikigai was initially formed to focus on igaming, frontier tech and psychedelics. It will now explore opportunities at the leading edge of healthcare technology.
For the last ten years, Eman Pulis has been busy building industry networks and leading industry event franchises. Dr Attard will be attending The Med-Tech Conference by AdvaMed next week in Boston! From October 24-26, 2022, the world’s top medtech executives will gather for one of the world’s leading events within the Med-Tech industry and Dr Attard will be seeking Ikigai’s next investment in Med-Tech.
