CoreMap has secured $37 million in an oversubscribed Series C financing round led by Medtronic, providing the company with new capital to accelerate the development of its next-generation electrophysiology (EP) mapping system for atrial fibrillation (AF).

The financing, which included participation from both new and existing investors, nearly doubles the Massachusetts-based company’s total funding since its founding in 2016. CoreMap said the investment reflects growing demand for more precise, data-driven technologies that can help physicians improve outcomes for patients undergoing AF ablation.

What is CoreMap developing for atrial fibrillation treatment?

CoreMap is developing an advanced electrophysiology mapping system designed to improve the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia.

AF occurs when abnormal electrical signals cause the heart to beat irregularly, increasing the risk of blood clots that can lead to stroke. According to the British Heart Foundation, people living with atrial fibrillation are five times more likely to experience a stroke.

The company’s platform combines proprietary high-density mapping technology with advanced data analytics to create real-time, three-dimensional electroanatomical maps tailored to each patient’s anatomy. By providing physicians with a more detailed view of the heart’s electrical activity, the system aims to support more accurate and personalised ablation procedures.

Sarah Kalil, CEO of CoreMap, said the funding will help accelerate the commercialisation of the company’s technology.

“This investment provides the resources to accelerate CoreMap’s next-generation AF mapping platform’s time to market. Our goal is simple: to provide electrophysiologists with a clearer understanding of AF so they can deliver more targeted, personalised treatment.”

Why are advanced electrophysiology mapping systems becoming more important?

Electrophysiology mapping plays a critical role in guiding catheter ablation procedures by identifying the source of abnormal electrical signals within the heart. As the number of patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation continues to rise globally, healthcare providers are seeking technologies that offer greater precision and improve procedural success.

CoreMap’s platform is designed to address this need by delivering detailed, patient-specific mapping data in real time, potentially enabling electrophysiologists to make more informed treatment decisions.

How is the electrophysiology devices market growing?

The investment comes as the global electrophysiology devices market continues to expand. According to GlobalData, the market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.2%, reaching a value of nearly $25 billion by 2035.

Within the US electrophysiology ablation catheter market, GlobalData estimates that Biosense Webster, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, held a 47% market share in 2025, followed by Boston Scientific at 31.6% and Medtronic at 13%.

How does this investment align with Medtronic’s cardiac strategy?

Although Medtronic trails some of its competitors in the US electrophysiology market, the company has seen strong momentum from its PulseSelect pulsed-field ablation (PFA) system.

During the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, Medtronic’s cardiovascular portfolio generated $3.46 billion in revenue, representing a 13.8% year-over-year increase. The company’s cardiac ablation segment recorded 80% year-over-year growth, with pulsed-field ablation contributing approximately 80% of that segment’s revenue.

By leading CoreMap’s latest financing round, Medtronic is further strengthening its presence in the rapidly evolving electrophysiology market, where demand for advanced mapping and ablation technologies continues to grow.
