After a Day 0 spent breaking the ice on Lantau Island and celebrating the inaugural Asia awards, MedTech World Asia 2026 | Hong Kong moved into its main event today. The exhibition floor and Main Stage at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre officially opened for a packed agenda of keynotes, panels, company showcases, and dealmaking, running from 9:00 through to a VIP networking reception well into the evening.

Beyond the Main Stage, the exhibition floor and startup village were in full swing, with exhibitors showcasing their products and the latest technology to a steady flow of delegates throughout the day. The 1:1 matchmaking room saw attendees making the most of their time on-site, turning scheduled introductions into focused conversations between founders, investors and partners. Meanwhile, the Media Lounge stayed busy with interviews running throughout the day, capturing perspectives from across the MedTech community.

Opening address and cross-border MoU signings

The day began with an opening address from Dr Dylan Attard, CEO and co-founder of MedTech World, setting the tone for the two days of programming ahead.

The morning’s early energy carried straight into a moment of formal collaboration: a Memorandum of Understanding signing between Ms Ming Cai, Secretary-General and General Manager of the SCSS Smart Healthcare & Big Health Professional Committee and Shenzhen Innovation Bay Research Institute. This was followed by a second MoU signing with Xuefei Zhang, General Manager of Beijing Zhongchuang Hongjian Medical Technology Co., Ltd. The third MoU was signed with Luo Jian (Robin), Co-founder, Wenfair International Network Technology Co., Ltd. The three signings underscored a theme that echoed throughout the agenda: the importance of cross-border collaboration, particularly between Hong Kong, mainland China and the wider region, in advancing the MedTech industry.

Why Hong Kong, and keynotes from government leaders

Attention then turned to the strategic question at the heart of the summit’s location: Why Hong Kong? The Strategic Gateway to Asia’s MedTech Ecosystem. The session examined how the city’s regulatory environment, capital markets and proximity to the Greater Bay Area position it as a launchpad for companies looking to scale across mainland China, Southeast Asia and beyond.

The conversation was reinforced by two government keynotes. HUNG See Long Aaron, Senior Medical & Health Officer in the Medical Device Division at Hong Kong’s Department of Health, HKSAR, spoke to the regulatory landscape shaping medical device approval in the city. He was followed by Dr Renzo De Gabriele, Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry for Health, Government of Malta, offering an international perspective on health innovation policy from Malta.

Expansion strategy and the East-West funding divide

With the regulatory and policy groundwork laid, the agenda shifted to growth. The panel Beyond APAC: Building a MedTech Expansion Strategy for Europe and the USA examined what it actually takes to move beyond regional success, covering evidence generation, reimbursement, pricing, adoption and the quality systems and cybersecurity considerations that need to be embedded early in any transatlantic expansion.

That set up one of the day’s most closely watched discussions, East vs. West: Funding Dynamics Compared, where investors unpacked how Southeast Asian funding trends diverge from US and European markets, touching on risk appetite, deal structures, due diligence expectations and the cultural nuances shaping how capital moves through the region.

Eight companies take the stage

A major highlight of Day 1 was the company showcase, spread across two sessions and featuring eight companies whose leaders took to the Main Stage to walk delegates through their trajectory and the impact they’re aiming to make in healthcare. The companies presenting today were:

  • Sparrow BioAcoustics
  • Vascular Perfusion Solutions, Inc. (VPS)
  • Cimple Biotechnology Limited
  • Belun Technology
  • ANRim Biotech (HK) Limited
  • LUMAT-SERS Limited, COCHE
  • NASELLA
  • EyeMed Technologies Ltd.

Each showcase gave founders and CEOs a few minutes to make their case directly to a room full of investors, hospital leaders and prospective partners, a format that has become one of the signature moments of any MedTech World summit.

From data to dollars: AI, capital and ecosystem building

The afternoon session continued with AI & Precision Medicine: Turning Data into Targeted Care, where experts explored how AI is turning complex health data, from genomics to imaging to real-world evidence, into actionable, personalised care.

Following the lunch break, the capital conversation continued with Where the Smart Money is Going: MedTech Capital in Asia 2026, a candid look at which sectors and geographies are pulling in the strongest investor interest across the region. That was followed by Capital, Cloud & Clinical Translation: Who Really Builds Hong Kong’s Health Innovation Ecosystem?, which brought together investors, cloud infrastructure players and clinicians to discuss what it really takes to move an idea from lab to patient in the city.

A second round of company showcases followed, before the agenda turned toward commercialisation and scale with three back-to-back panels: From First Patient to Market: What Hospitals and CROs Wish Every MedTech Founder Knew, Scaling Across Borders: Winning Market Entry Strategies in Asia-Pacific, and Digital Health & Connected Devices: Building for APAC’s Infrastructure Realities, which closed out the Main Stage programming for the day.

An invite-only look behind the deal

Away from the Main Stage, one of the day’s most important conversations happened behind closed doors. An invite-only luncheon, From Due Diligence to Deal Ready: What Investors and Acquirers See Before They Say Yes, powered by Blue Goat Cyber and CS Lifesciences, brought together a select group of investors and regulatory, quality and cybersecurity experts to discuss what separates a promising MedTech company from one that’s genuinely ready for investment, expansion and acquisition, and the gaps that can quietly derail a deal after the initial interest has been won.

Evening networking VIP reception at the Grill Bar

As the Main Stage sessions wrapped, delegates regrouped for the Evening Networking VIP Reception at Grill Bar, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, powered by Blue Goat Cyber and Infera. Set against Hong Kong’s skyline, the reception offered an intimate setting for investors, CEOs and industry leaders to continue the conversations started on stage earlier during the day.

Looking ahead to Day 2

With the exhibition floor open and another full day of dealmaking, attendees are already looking ahead to Day 2, and to the moment most of the room has circled on their agendas: the MedTech World Startup Pitch Competition. Tomorrow’s programme builds toward a live pitch session where a hand-selected cohort of startups will present in front of an investor judging panel, a fitting climax to two days of showcases, funding conversations and cross-border deal-making. Alongside the pitch, Day 2 brings its own packed line-up, from the Greater Bay Area advantage and the next generation of medical robotics to India’s rise as a MedTech manufacturing powerhouse, before the summit crowns its Startup Pitch winner and closes out MedTech World Asia 2026.

Day 1 delivered the substance behind Day 0’s energy: signed agreements, government commitment, hard conversations about capital, and eight companies making their case on stage. Now, all eyes turn to the pitch, as well as more company showcases and insightful discussions still to come.
