Five years on from a single gathering in Malta, MedTech World is about to touch down in Asia for its first flagship in the region. MedTech World’s fourth magazine issue lands just as the countdown reaches its final days, with MedTech World Asia 2026 | Hong Kong set to open its doors at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 26 to 28 August.

This edition looks closely at Hong Kong’s position in the healthcare, MedTech and innovation landscape. A super-connector between mainland China and the rest of the world, with a growing bench of skilled talent and innovation, the city plays a pivotal role in shaping where medical technology goes next. It’s a fitting backdrop for an issue that spends much of its pages tracking a shift from anticipation to application, from AI as buzzword to AI as a bedside tool.

That thread runs right through the magazine. On page 10, the spotlight falls on UBTECH and the launch of its UWORLD U1, the world’s first full-size, mass-produced ultra-bionic humanoid robot. What was pure science fiction not long ago is now being built for home care, positioned as an emotionally responsive companion designed to support both physical and mental wellbeing.

Justin Cheng, CEO of SmartCare, picks up a similar thread from a different angle. His company’s journey from a research initiative at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to an AI-driven platform reducing clinicians’ administrative load is a practical glimpse of what patient-centred AI can actually look like once the hype clears. Read the full interview from page 18.

Elsewhere, Podymos makes the case that good go-to-market strategy starts long before the sales pitch. Their argument, laid out from page 14: stakeholder mapping and AI-driven hyper-personalisation aren’t optional extras; they’re the difference between a message that lands and one that never leaves the harbour. As they put it, bad messaging is like sailing with the anchor still down.

Further in, Dr Renzo De Gabriele, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry for Health, Government of Malta, talks through the country’s Digital Health and Health Data Strategy 2030 and what it means for patients, professionals, and the innovators looking to build alongside them. “Our ambition is not simply to digitise services,” he says, “but to position Malta among Europe’s leaders in digitally enabled, data-driven healthcare.” That interview runs from page 31.

The cover story features Arman Nadershahi, CEO of Endiatx, whose PillBot is being developed as the world’s first low-cost, disposable, remote-controlled endoscopy pill. Nadershahi lays out a vision that thinks in decades rather than product cycles. “We are pioneering autonomous robots that work inside the human body,” he says. “The technologies we are building today are the foundation of that future, and we are just getting started.” Disrupting endoscopy, he makes clear, is only the opening move; read the ten-page feature from page 37.

The issue also covers Credo Diagnostics’ VitaPCR platform and its push to bring precision molecular diagnostics to the point of care (page 22), the investment logic behind Verge HealthTech Fund (page 26), how wearables and community-based screening are reshaping preventative healthcare in Hong Kong (page 44), and an exclusive look inside Aliform’s work on soft-tissue surgery technologies (page 48).

None of it comes together without the people behind it. Thanks are due to Dr Dylan Attard, MedTech World’s CEO and co-founder, whose own journey from that first Malta gathering to a global platform now is a reminder that communities worth having are built slowly and on purpose. And to the editorial team who turned it all into an issue worth keeping.

For those heading to Hong Kong, copies of MedTech World magazine will be available throughout the exhibition floor at HKCEC. For everyone else, this issue and past editions are available to browse in the digital library. If you have a story to tell or an insight to share, we’d love to hear from you for a future edition of the magazine.
