MedTech World Startup Pitch Competition Showcases Cutting-Edge Innovation at Luxembourg Roadshow

On September 30th, during the Luxembourg Roadshow, the MedTech World Startup Pitch Competition became a focal point, showcasing innovative ideas from emerging startups. Held at the House of Startups as part of Luxembourg Healthcare Week, the event, in partnership with House of BioHealth, brought together a range of entrepreneurs addressing key challenges in the MedTech field, each vying for the attention of an expert judging panel.

Startups Present Groundbreaking Healthcare Solutions

Five startups took the stage to present their innovative technologies aimed at improving healthcare. Each pitch was evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges, including Carole Brückler, PhD, Head of Digital Health Technologies at the Ministry of the Economy, Luxembourg; Benjamin Tillier, Partner at Dedicated VC; and Benjamin J. Rieck, CEO of AngioConsult. Startups were assessed on their technology, scalability, and ability to solve real-world healthcare challenges.

Muun Health Aims to Revolutionize Female Fertility Monitoring

Among the notable presentations was Muun Health, led by CEO Kerli Luks. The startup introduced an advanced female fertility monitoring device designed to provide continuous, accurate hormone tracking. Unlike existing solutions that offer limited data points, Muun Health’s technology offers a clearer picture of users’ hormonal cycles, making it a valuable tool for those seeking more detailed fertility insights. While still early in development, the company is focused on filing patents and building trust within the healthcare industry.

NIUM Explores Microbiome Research for Food and Health Sciences

NIUM, led by CEO Alberto Noronha, showcased its innovative approach to food science through microbiome research. The startup aims to develop a simulation of digestion that replicates the human gut environment in a lab setting. This simulation will allow companies in the food and probiotic industries to test products and their effects on gut health more accurately. NIUM’s technology has significant potential for expanding into the pharmaceutical sector as well.

ExoBiosphere Proposes Space-Based Drug Testing to Advance Medicine

ExoBiosphere, co-founded by Director of Engineering Olivia Borgue, captivated the audience with its plan to conduct drug testing in space. Leveraging the microgravity environment, ExoBiosphere aims to improve the accuracy of preclinical models, potentially speeding up drug development. Their flagship product, the Orbital High Throughput Screener, is slated for a 2026 launch, offering pharmaceutical companies a unique platform to enhance drug testing processes. 

Hale-X Seeks to Streamline Medical Data for Healthcare Providers

CEO Astou Ndiaye of Hale-X introduced the company’s platform, which integrates data from various medical sources to assist healthcare providers in making more informed decisions. Using artificial intelligence (AI), Hale-X aggregates real-time data from tests, scans, and wearable devices, addressing inefficiencies in patient care. The company is still in its early stages but is focused on obtaining regulatory approval to bring its product to market.

Arspectra Medical Wins Top Honors at Luxembourg Roadshow

After much deliberation, the judging panel awarded the top prize to Arspectra Medical, led by General Manager Cédric Spaas. The company’s mixed-reality surgical solutions allow surgeons to access critical patient data in real time through specialized glasses, eliminating the need to look away from the patient during procedures. Arspectra’s technology has already generated revenue and is advancing towards FDA approval, with plans to expand its focus on breast cancer surgeries.
