MedTech World alumnus Plexāā has received the 2026 Red Dot Design Award for Product Design for its BLOOM⁴³ platform, marking another milestone for the company as it advances a new approach to pre-operative care in breast surgery.
The recognition comes as Plexāā continues to build momentum within the MedTech sector, following its win of the FemTech Product of the Year award at MedTech World Europe 2024.

Widely regarded as one of the most respected international design competitions, the Red Dot Design Award recognises innovation, functionality, quality, and user experience. Within the programme, the MedTech category is considered among the most competitive, with products assessed across clinical relevance, safety, and design performance.
The award recognises not only the design of BLOOM⁴³ itself, but also the wider shift in thinking behind the platform. Traditionally, the period before surgery has offered limited clinical intervention. BLOOM⁴³ aims to transform that window into an active phase of preparation designed to improve patient outcomes and recovery.
The integrated platform combines a wearable medical device with a companion digital app to support patients before and after surgery.
At the centre of the system is the BLOOM⁴³ device, which delivers ultra-precise thermal supraphysiological preconditioning™ to increase blood flow and improve tissue resilience ahead of surgery. According to clinical studies, supraphysiological preconditioning™ has demonstrated a 67% relative reduction in the rate of skin necrosis and a 50% reduction in the need for further surgical intervention following breast surgery procedures.
Alongside the device, the BLOOM⁴³ app provides structured Prehab™ and Rehab programmes, as well as evidence-based educational content and guidance throughout the surgical journey. Available globally on the App Store and Google Play, the app is designed to help patients take a more active role in their preparation and recovery while supporting integration into existing healthcare pathways.
The platform reflects growing interest in prehabilitation, an approach focused on optimising patient condition before surgery rather than relying solely on post-operative care. By enabling earlier intervention, Plexāā is positioning BLOOM⁴³ as part of a broader movement towards improving patient outcomes while reducing healthcare complexity.
“BLOOM⁴³ was built to change how we think about preparing for surgery, by focusing on the pre-operative phase which is currently widely sub-optimised,” said Dr Saahil Mehta, CEO and Founder at Plexāā. “We have designed our BLOOM⁴³ platform with patient insights at its core and we are very humbled to receive this prestigious recognition from Red Dot which validates our belief that pre-operative care is one of the biggest opportunities to improve outcomes in healthcare.”
Professor Dr Peter Zec, Founder and CEO of Red Dot, added: “In a strong field of participants with entries from companies and design studios around the world, your product convinced the jury with its outstanding design and quality. The international Red Dot Jury honors this achievement with special recognition, giving it the stage it deserves.”
As healthcare systems continue to prioritise improved outcomes alongside lower costs and reduced complexity, platforms focused on earlier intervention are attracting increasing attention. With BLOOM⁴³, Plexāā is contributing to that evolving model of surgical care.
