The MedTech World Asia 2026 Cultural Tour is a curated half-day excursion for Platinum Ticket holders, running from 10:00 to 15:00 on Day 0 of the conference. It includes private coach transfers, a guided Ngong Ping 360 cable car journey, a walking tour of Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha, and free time for lunch in Ngong Ping Village.
Platinum Ticket Holders Only. Prior RSVP Required. Spaces are strictly limited.
Your experience begins at your hotel door. A private coach with a dedicated English-speaking guide collects you at 10:00, handling every logistical detail from the start. En route to Tung Chung, your guide will introduce you to Lantau Island, the largest island in Hong Kong, sharing its history and cultural significance before you arrive.
At Tung Chung, you board the Ngong Ping 360 cable car for a 25-minute ascent across 5.7 kilometres above the coastline and forested hillsides of Lantau Island. The route climbs to 440 metres above sea level, delivering visitors right to the foot of the 268 steps leading up to the Tian Tan Buddha.
Arriving at Ngong Ping Village, you begin a guided walking tour of Po Lin Monastery, one of Hong Kong’s most significant Buddhist sites. Founded in 1906, its name translates as “Precious Lotus.” Your guide leads you through ornate ceremonial halls, incense-filled courtyards, and century-old gardens, bringing the history and living traditions of the monastery to life.
From there, you climb 268 steps to the Tian Tan Buddha, known worldwide as the Big Buddha. Completed in 1993 and cast in bronze, this seated figure rises 34 metres above its lotus throne and weighs over 200 tonnes. At the summit, the views across Lantau Island and the surrounding waters are breathtaking. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera.
After the monastery and the Big Buddha, you have free time in Ngong Ping Village to explore and enjoy lunch at your own expense. Dining options range from traditional Chinese vegetarian cuisine to noodle shops and cafes. Browse local shops or find a quiet spot to enjoy the mountain air before the return journey.
You board the return Ngong Ping 360 cable car back to Tung Chung, then the private coach returns you to your hotel, arriving by 15:00 and leaving you refreshed for the afternoon programme.
Most visitors to Hong Kong reach the Big Buddha on crowded public transport, without cultural context or a guide. This tour is different. Private transfers, a dedicated English-speaking guide, and a small group of MedTech peers from across the globe make it a seamless, meaningful experience.
