Carolina Aguilar
CEO & Co-Founder, INBRAIN Neuroelectronics
Carolina Aguilar possesses over 15 years of expertise in healthcare, particularly in Medical Devices such as Neuromodulation and Diabetes, as well as experience in consumer goods. She has a passion for cross-pollinating ideas between the scientific and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) worlds. Recognizing the brain as one of the most important organs, Carolina has dedicated a significant portion of her time to its study. This led her to join Medtronic, the world’s largest Medtech company, where she led the most advanced neural interface program at that time in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). During her tenure in DBS, which spanned a decade, Carolina managed complex businesses in this field, overseeing a Profit and Loss (P&L) of over $140 million. She led large local and global teams, achieving high single to double-digit growth percentages year-over-year. In recent years, she has also been involved in Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC), driving the expansion of the first VBHC provider model in Diabetes for Medtronic. This endeavor included signing a major deal in Saudi Arabia and winning the European VBHC prize in 2017. Carolina’s experience with VBHC reinforced her belief in delivering solutions focused on patient outcomes, leading to patient empowerment and the sustainability of healthcare. After an extensive corporate career, Carolina made the decision to contribute to critical innovation at a faster pace. She recently co-founded INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, a company operating in the field of Bioelectronics. Carolina assembled an incredible team with backgrounds in nanoscience, Medtronic, and Philips. Adhering to VBHC principles, INBRAIN Neuroelectronics is developing the next generation of neural interfaces using graphene, the material that earned the Nobel Prize for Geim and Novoselov from Manchester University in 2010. The company is a spin-off from the Graphene Flagship’s partner, the Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Institute of Catalonia (ICN2). Leveraging the unique properties of graphene, they aim to decode brain and nerve signals to create breakthrough and sustainable medical solutions.
