MedTech Malta is bringing together investors and entrepreneurs from around the world to share ideas, network, showcase new technologies, and gain exposure to potential customers and partners. Our focus is assembling an innovation ecosystem that brings together the key stakeholders on this beautiful island of Malta with the goal of sparking relationships, connections, and partnerships. This historic island, known for its rich heritage, and strategic European position, offers an inspiring environment for MedTech startups, investors, and industry leaders to connect and collaborate.

Previously, he was Minister for the Economy and Industry and Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy, and Innovation. Hon. Schembri holds a master’s degree in Economy and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Malta. He has worked in a private bank and as a Supervisor Economist at the Central Bank of Malta. He also chaired the Responsible Gaming Foundation Malta, and played key roles in developing Malta’s AI Strategy and the Covid-19 economic regeneration plan.

Amir is CEO of Cardiovalve, a leading developer of replacement mitral and tricuspid valve systems. Cardiovalve was acquired by Venus MedTech Inc. (Venus MedTech, 2500.HK) in an exit of $300M in 2022. In addition to his role as CEO, Amir leads Venus Medtech’s global heart valve innovation center. At the center, Amir heads local incubation of innovative therapeutic technologies, including a new generation of valves for the treatment of aortic regurgitation, and the application of digital health technology to heart valve systems. Previously, Amir founded and was CEO of Valtech Cardio until it was acquired by one of the largest medical device companies in the world, Edwards Life Sciences (NYSE: EW) in a $700M exit. As CEO of Valtech, Amir led a team of 70 experts to create something previously seen as impossible: repairing one of the main valves in the heart by inserting a small catheter in a patient’s leg, with no need for open heart surgery.

Benjamin Meany

Manager Digital, Software and AI Regulation at MedTech Europe

Benjamin Meany is Manager for Digital, Software and AI Regulation at MedTech Europe, where he has worked since December 2021. He is responsible for software regulation, MedTech Europe’s preparation and implementation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act, and cybersecurity policy. As part of the Digital Health team, he leads the work on AI Act implementation, coordinates the Cybersecurity Working Group and supports the Digital Health team on IVDR/MDR regulatory matters. As part of Regulatory Affairs (IVDR & MDR) team, he coordinates the Software Working Group.
In his role, Benjamin hopes to strike a critical balance in EU regulation that ensures both technological innovation, but also guarantees state-of-the-art care for patients.

Sabine Bois

Sabine has over 15 years of experience from the Biotech/Med-tech industry, among others from supporting the foundation of several successful start-ups within the research center and incubator “Caesar” in Bonn. Co-founding the biotech company Biosensor/SAW Instruments GmbH in 2007 (sold 2013). Sabine has been leading Occlutech a medical device company for the past 10 years as CFO and CEO, contributing to accelerated growth and geographic expansion, including the company’s first FDA approval.
