MedTech World London welcomes Pitch Startup Competitor: Mindstep

“More so in a post-COVID19 world; people, society, and even healthcare professionals need support, guidance, and, most importantly, time for self-care and self-love. Access to mental health is more important that ever. When the system fails to provide this, it not only burns out its workers but also becomes a societal safety issue.”

– Anushka Patchava MD, MBA, Chief Growth Officer at Mindstep

MedTech World is excited to announce that Mindstep will be competing in our Pitch Competition at the London Roadshow on Wednesday evening, May 29th. Dr. Anushka Patchava, Chief Growth Officer at Mindstep, will represent her team. Each competitor will have an 8-minute slot: a 4-minute pitch followed by a 4-minute Q&A with our panel of judges.

Meet Dr. Anushka Patchava

Anushka Patchava is a qualified doctor, who spent nearly 10 years as a senior executive leader and strategist with a proven track record in product innovation and commercial strategy across the pharmaceutical, health, and medical devices sectors, globally. Now a multi-award winning entrepreneur, Anushka is committed to building health technologies to benefit the friction points she noticed across health systems and the industry as a whole. In 2023, Anushka was honoured to win MedTech World’s Best Digital Solution as Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Wellx, a health and insurtech start up in United Arab Emirates.

Since her time as Global Propositions and Strategy Lead at Aetna International (a Fortune 4 company), building preventative and population health solutions using data, analytics and AI has been a passion for Anushka. Noting the rising demand, and reducing access for high-quality, effective mental health triage in the United Kingdom, she recently joined Mindstep, as Chief Growth Officer – a business that was featured in Google’s acclaimed AI for Health inaugral cohort and has since gone from strength to strength.

In addition, Anushka serves as an Expert Advisor for emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in healthcare to the United Nations, World Economic Forum and to Private Equity. But it’s not all work for Anushka, who is often found power-lifting, climbing mountains or teaching a spin class!

About Mindstep

Combining mindfulness, psychology, and AI technology, the cognitive health app Mindstep empowers users to seek help for their mental well-being. Featured by BBC StoryWorks last March and presented by MedTech Europe, Mindstep is at the forefront of innovative mental health solutions.

“Mindstep started out really as an experiment to see if the technology we have available is at the level where we, as doctors, feel comfortable managing patients remotely or safely,”

…said Founder and CEO, Doctor Hamzah Selim, speaking to the BBC.

“We’ve provided it to so many people, enabling them to access mental health resources from anywhere, addressing challenges such as mobility issues and social anxiety.”

Pairing technology with the team’s medical knowledge and expertise is driving the app’s growth. According to data from an internal survey shared with the BBC, 86% of Mindstep users report experiencing benefits to their cognitive or mental health.

“AI is now allowing us to do what we set out to do,” continued Dr. Selim. “[…] Generative AI will make medical technology developments a two-way stream, allowing AI to output personalised information back to the individual. This is really exciting if done correctly.”

Earlier in March, the app featured as one of Sifted’s 16 mental health startups to watch, according to VCs:

“With over 200k real-world brains calibrated, [Mindstep] offers AI-triage, clinically-validated assessments, and digital personalized care plans resulting in statistically significant improvements in mood and cognitive biomarkers; as well as up to 40% reduction in primary care and therapy appointments following it’s use. Mindstep stands out as the first comprehensive digital therapeutics platform addressing major brain conditions in one product.”
