Vantive is set to establish a new €150 million manufacturing facility in Ħal Far, Malta, in a move expected to strengthen the country’s position within the global MedTech sector. The project is anticipated to create 250 new jobs, many of them focused on science and technology roles.
The new facility will be developed on a 16,000-square-metre site, with construction scheduled to begin later in 2026. According to the announcement, the plant is expected to be completed in 2027 and become fully operational by 2029.
Vantive was formed in 2025 following the separation of Baxter International’s kidney care division into an independent company focused on vital organ therapies. The company was acquired by funds managed by the global investment firm Carlyle, which oversees hundreds of billions of dollars in assets.
The company specialises in kidney care and dialysis solutions, with a focus on improving access to treatment through advanced therapies, digital technologies, and care services.
Speaking during the announcement in Ħal Far, Malta’s Prime Minister Hon. Robert Abela described the investment as a “historic moment” for Malta, highlighting the opportunities the project would bring for high-quality employment and innovation-driven growth.
Economy Minister Hon. Silvio Schembri noted that the investment followed months of discussions and negotiations aimed at attracting strategic international investment to Malta’s economy.
The announcement also adds to Malta’s growing MedTech momentum, with Baxter already maintaining a longstanding presence on the island since the 1980s and continuing to expand its local operations.
As Malta continues to strengthen its position as a destination for healthcare innovation and investment, industry leaders, startups, investors, and policymakers will gather at MedTech World Europe 2026 from 11 to 13 November to explore the latest developments shaping the sector. The event will feature discussions on investment, digital health, AI, regulation, and emerging technologies, while also creating opportunities for networking and collaboration across the global healthcare ecosystem.
