The rise of artificial intelligence in healthcare has opened new possibilities for patient support, but in mental health, safety and clinical oversight remain critical.

New York-based Jimini Health is stepping into this space with a model designed to keep clinicians firmly at the center of care. The company has announced a $17 million seed funding round to help behavioral health organizations deploy AI safely and effectively at scale.

At the heart of its platform is Sage, an AI-powered behavioral health assistant that supports patients before, after, and between therapy sessions. Unlike general-purpose chatbots, every interaction is supervised by a human clinical team, while all care decisions remain with licensed clinicians.

The timing of the raise is particularly notable as more patients increasingly turn to unsupervised AI chatbots for mental health support, a trend that continues to raise concerns across the sector.

“We believe that Jimini’s platform can help address both efficacy and access, by making therapists both more effective with their work and able to help more patients,” said Mark Jacobstein, President of Jimini Health. “In addition, Jimini will help with the tsunami of demand we see reflected in the inappropriate use of general-purpose chatbots for therapy.”

Building safe AI for behavioral health

The funding round was backed by M13, Town Hall Ventures, LionBird, Zetta Venture Partners, and OneMind, bringing Jimini Health’s total funding to more than $25 million.

For investors, the urgency behind this space is clear.

“When 1 million people a week are discussing suicide with a product that was never designed to handle it, that’s not an edge case, it’s a systemic gap,” said Morgan Blumberg, Partner at M13. “Jimini is building the clinical infrastructure this category has never had: real supervision, real clinicians, real oversight.”

The latest investment will support team expansion, including the hiring of more forward-deployed engineers, machine learning engineers, and software engineers, alongside growth of its business development team.

Jimini Health is also looking to expand partnerships with behavioral health provider organizations across the country and extend its clinical capabilities across multiple care settings, comorbidities, and patient engagement modalities.

In a growing field of AI mental health companies, many solutions focus primarily on improving clinician workflows. Jimini’s approach, however, places emphasis on continuous patient engagement within existing clinical care models, aiming to improve both access and outcomes.

Led by experts across psychology, AI, biopharma, and healthcare, the company is positioning itself as a responsible innovator in the behavioral health space, combining evidence-based therapeutic methods with continuous AI-supported engagement.

As demand for mental health services continues to rise, Jimini Health’s latest funding round reflects growing confidence in AI solutions that extend care while preserving clinical oversight.
