Labena Ventures Startup Pitch Competition Highlights Groundbreaking Health and Biotech Innovations

The MedTech Malta event, held on 7 November 2024 at the historic Mediterranean Conference Centre, showcased the transformative potential of health and biotech innovation. A central highlight was Labena Ventures’ Startup Pitch Competition, bringing together 10 pioneering startups vying for recognition and investment. Labena Ventures, a renowned accelerator headquartered in Central and Eastern Europe, empowers startups in the Biotech, HealthTech, PharmaTech, Food, and Environmental sectors, providing tailored mentorship, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities.

During the competition, the audience was presented with cutting-edge solutions aimed at addressing pressing healthcare challenges. From Biolibrary’s 3D-printed prosthetics to Shemha Health’s telemedicine platform for oncology care, the event provided a glimpse into the future of health technology.

Celebrating the Big Winner: 365care.io

Taking home the top prize of €15,000, 365care.io stood out with its innovative Telemon app, a remote patient monitoring (RPM) platform designed for chronic condition management and real-time health tracking. Developed to improve patient outcomes and support healthcare providers, Telemon offers a user-friendly interface for patients to track vital signs, connect with healthcare professionals, and receive personalised care plans. Michal Suchán, CEO of 365care.io, shared his excitement about the platform’s potential: “We’re set to revolutionise healthcare by making remote patient monitoring accessible and affordable. Our universal system is already transforming patient care in hospitals and clinics across Europe, and we’re just getting started.”

The judges, a panel of seven experts including medical professionals and angel investors, praised Telemon’s affordable and scalable solution, underscoring its ability to empower patients and support overburdened healthcare systems.

Runner-Up Innovators: FeJuice and Shemha Health

The competition also awarded a shared second-place prize of €5,000 to FeJuice and Shemha Health. FeJuice, co-founded by Bojana Mumovic, is a MedTech startup developing nutrient-rich, natural juices, ice creams, and purees aimed at supporting specific health conditions and tackling the widespread issue of iron deficiency.

Shemha Health, founded by Ivo Petov, presented PrOPA™, a telemedicine platform for oncology patients that offers personalised guidance through diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, prioritising patient-centred care.

Showcasing Tomorrow’s Health Solutions

The event also highlighted innovations from other competitors, each aiming to disrupt their respective fields with technology and forward-thinking approaches:

• FitKit – An engaging platform for health and fitness, connecting users to wellness programs and facilities both online and in various locations. 
• Walletmed – Developed by Jakub Buszyński, this metabolic health management tool uses advanced medical technology for non-invasive glucose measurement and other vital metrics.
• PhycoFerm – Founded by Amikam Bar-Gil, this startup leverages microalgae and AI to produce bio-secure, nutrient-rich food products.
• GMD-R Ltd – Introduced by Bogdan Gryshchuk, this revolutionary electrosurgery device is designed for safer, more efficient knee meniscus treatment.
• WAVE – A blue tech initiative by Denis Ivanov, creating sustainable algae-based packaging.
• Vinaver Medical – An AI-driven spectral X-ray imaging technology presented by Stevan Vrbaski, promising more precise diagnostics and transformative workflows.
