MedTech World Deepens Asia Collaboration with Cross-Border Tour to Qianhai
On 2 July, MedTech World successfully concluded its Hong Kong Roadshow 2025 in partnership with NovaX. The final leg of the roadshow included a high-impact cross-border delegation tour to Shenzhen’s Qianhai Cooperation Zone. This marked another important step in connecting Asia’s innovation ecosystems with the global MedTech community.
Reflecting on the week of programming, Dr. Dylan Attard, CEO of MedTech World, said:
“The Hong Kong Roadshow 2025 exceeded expectations. From the quality of the discussions to the energy on the ground in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, it’s clear that this region is ready to become a global hub for MedTech. We’re incredibly grateful to our partners, and we look forward to continuing to connect Asia with the rest of the world through ongoing dialogue, collaboration, and exchange.”
From Hong Kong to Qianhai: Exploring the Innovation Landscape
In partnership with local government agencies and innovation stakeholders, MedTech World led a diverse group of delegates, including startup founders, investors, researchers, and policy leaders, on a cross-border visit to Shenzhen’s Qianhai district. The delegation visited the Qianhai Exhibition Hall, Qianhai Kerry Centre, and the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation Hub, where they witnessed the region’s infrastructure and policy support driving high-growth sectors like MedTech, biotechnology, and digital health.
Following this, the group toured some of the area’s most dynamic health-focused institutions, including WonderCell Therapeutics, the PolyU Qianhai Advanced Technology Innovation Center, and the Qianhai Taikang International Hospital. These visits provided real-world insight into the region’s investment in translational research, medical infrastructure, and commercialization pathways.

Qianhai Seminar: Cross-Border Collaboration in Action
The delegation’s Shenzhen visit culminated with the MedTech World Qianhai Seminar, co-hosted with local authorities and supported by the Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE). The seminar opened with welcome remarks from Qianhai leadership, followed by a statement from an HKTEO representative, both underlining the region’s ambition to become a bridge for cross-border innovation.
The keynote session, “Co-Innovating HealthTech: Building Cross-Border Collaborations Between Qianhai and Global MedTech Leaders,” provided a blueprint for how global and regional players can work together. Moderated by Dr. Dylan Attard, CEO of MedTech World, the panel included Christian Espinosa, CEO of Blue Gate Cyber; Sean Yoshikawa, Director–Asia at D-Risk; and Kai Wang, Office Lead at Elsevier Shenzhen. Discussion revolved around opportunities and challenges for cross-border MedTech collaboration in Qianhai, innovation, cybersecurity and patient data protection, risk management, knowledge exchange, and future trends.
During the discussion, Dr. Dylan Attard shared insights on the cultural, regulatory, and operational nuances of international collaboration:
“Cross-border cooperation is no longer optional; it’s essential. We must learn to navigate and respect our cultural differences while focusing on shared goals in MedTech innovation. This tour has shown us how strong partnerships across regions can lead to real, tangible outcomes.”
