Out Now: MedTech World Podcast Season 3 Premieres with Surgeon-Turned-Entrepreneur’s Inspiring Story 

MedTech World is launching the third season of its podcast series, The MedTech World Podcast, continuing to bring engaging conversations and fresh insights from leaders in the medical technology industry. Available on Spotify and YouTube, the new season kicks off with Episode 1, featuring a powerful story of innovation and resilience with Dr. Swarna Balasubramaniam, Founder and CEO of Noleus Technologies.  

In the episode, Dr. Balasubramaniam shares her inspiring journey from practicing surgeon to pioneering entrepreneur. The interview, led by Shara Layton, Head of Marketing at MedTech World, explores how Dr. Balasubramaniam’s venture began when a seasoned MedTech intellectual property attorney recognized her idea as the best she had heard in 20 years.This validation underscored the concept’s potential to address a real clinical need, utilize existing FDA-approved technology, and seamlessly integrate into established clinical workflows.

Following this encouragement, Dr. Balasubramaniam filed a patent, developed a prototype, and collaborated with students from Rice University. Their enthusiasm led to the startup’s entry into the prestigious Rice Business Plan Competition, where it reached the semifinals, capturing investor interest and leading to the formal establishment of Noleus Technologies in 2018.

Early funding from colleagues and participation in the Texas Medical Center Accelerator helped advance the prototype and validate the technology in animal studies. However, the path was not without hurdles. As a first-time entrepreneur with no formal business background, Dr. Balasubramaniam struggled to secure funding and leadership support. Her belief in the project’s impact drove her to leave medical practice in mid-2019 and dedicate herself fully to the venture.

Noleus Technologies is now on the verge of human trials, with its innovation promising to enhance recovery after abdominal surgery, potentially reducing hospital stays and improving healing outcomes. Dr. Balasubramaniam’s story is a testament to perseverance and the transformative power of MedTech entrepreneurship.
