The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) will be hosting two engaging and technology-driven workshops during MedTech Malta 2025, taking place on 13 November 2025 at the Vassalli Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta. These workshops highlight the growing collaboration between MUMN and MedTech World, reflecting their shared goal of advancing education, innovation, and professional development for healthcare professionals across Malta and beyond.
MUMN President Mr. Paul Pace will open the session, introducing the organisation and outlining its ongoing partnership with MedTech World. This collaboration continues to offer meaningful opportunities for MUMN’s over 5,000 members, fostering growth, networking, and hands-on exposure to cutting-edge medical technologies.
“Working with MedTech World gives our members the chance to engage directly with the latest tools and ideas in healthcare,” said Mr. Paul Pace, President, MUMN. “Technology-driven education helps nurses and midwives learn in new, practical ways, and that’s what keeps our profession growing and improving every day.”

The REACH-ETHICS project introduces a novel approach to training in animal and human health ethics through virtual reality (VR) and generative AI. This interactive, scenario-based learning tool immerses participants in realistic 3D environments where they engage with expert avatars to explore ethical dilemmas in healthcare and research.
During the workshop, Ms. Marisa Galea Vella and her team will present an overview of the app’s development—showcasing how immersive technologies can deepen ethical understanding—and will offer participants a live, hands-on demonstration of the system in action.
“The REACH-ETHICS project brings ethics education to life,” said Ms. Marisa Galea Vella. “By integrating virtual environments with AI-driven dialogue, we’re helping students and professionals experience ethical decision-making in a safe yet realistic setting.”

The ISADD project—funded by Xjenza Malta’s Research Excellence Programme—focuses on improving healthcare safety through the development of an integrated simulation and assessment tool for personal protective equipment (PPE) use.
Combining augmented reality (AR), image processing, and machine learning, the ISADD prototype provides real-time feedback to healthcare professionals and students as they practice donning and doffing procedures. The goal is to enhance accuracy and reduce contamination risks arising from improper technique.
Led by Dr. Neville Schembri and a multidisciplinary team at MCAST, the project has already undergone extensive testing with nursing lecturers, practicing nurses, and students, continuing to evolve through ongoing research and technological refinement.
“The ISADD system supports clinical training with precision and feedback that traditional methods can’t easily achieve,” said Dr. Schembri. “It represents a crucial step toward safer, smarter, and more interactive learning in healthcare.”

The workshops reflect MUMN’s strong commitment to integrating advanced technologies into healthcare education and training. By bridging the gap between academia, clinical practice, and innovation, MUMN continues to empower Malta’s nursing and midwifery professionals with access to world-class learning experiences.
With MedTech Malta 2025 serving as a global stage for collaboration and knowledge exchange, MUMN’s presence at the event reinforces the country’s growing reputation as a hub for healthcare innovation and professional excellence.
