Sensor Bio has appointed digital health executive Ken Nelson to its advisory board, strengthening its commercial leadership as the company expands its clinical-grade continuous biometric monitoring platform across healthcare, research and enterprise markets.

Nelson brings more than 25 years of experience in commercializing medical devices, wearable technologies and remote patient monitoring solutions. His appointment comes as the Austin, Texas-based company continues to broaden adoption of its platform through health systems, research organizations and strategic enterprise partnerships.

Veteran digital health leader joins Sensor Bio

Throughout his career, Nelson has held senior commercial leadership roles across the cardiac digital health sector. He previously served as Global Vice President of Sales at BioTelemetry, which was later acquired by Philips in a $2.8 billion deal. Before that, he led sales and marketing at iRhythm, where he built the commercial organization behind the launch of the Zio Patch and supported the company’s journey to its initial public offering.

He later became Chief Commercial Officer at Bardy Diagnostics, which was acquired by Hillrom—now part of Baxter—in a transaction valued at more than $400 million. Nelson has also served as Head of Digital Health, Diagnostics and Monitoring at Biotronik and began his career in leadership positions at Guidant, which was later acquired by Boston Scientific.

Beyond his executive roles, Nelson is Founder and Partner of Nelson Jennings Ventures and Venture Partner at Star51 Capital. He also serves on the boards of several digital health companies and advises organisations including the Heart Rhythm Society, the American Heart Association and MedTech Innovator.

Nelson is also a familiar figure within the MedTech World community. He was named MedTech Leader of the Year at MedTech World Europe 2025 in recognition of his contributions to the industry. A longstanding supporter of MedTech World, he has regularly shared his expertise as a panelist across multiple conferences. Most recently, he served on the steering committee for MedTech World North America 2026, having previously been a jury member for the MedTech World Startup Pitch Competition at MedTech World Europe 2025.

Supporting Sensor Bio’s commercial strategy

Commenting on his appointment, Nelson said Sensor Bio’s platform combines clinical validation with practical scalability for healthcare providers and enterprise customers.

“I have spent my career commercializing technologies that moved cardiac care from episodic snapshots to continuous insight, and Sensor Bio is positioned to do that for the entire body,” Nelson said. “The clinical rigor here is real: validated, research-grade biometrics backed by dozens of peer-reviewed studies, delivered through a platform that health systems, researchers, and enterprise partners can actually build on. That combination is rare.”

Bruce Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Sensor Bio, said Nelson’s experience building and scaling digital health businesses will play an important role in the company’s next phase of growth.

“Ken has launched and scaled the defining companies in remote patient monitoring, from startup through IPO and multibillion dollar acquisition,” Smith said. “As we expand into new markets and enterprise partnerships, Ken’s guidance on go-to-market strategy, channel development, and clinical adoption will be invaluable.”

Expanding continuous biometric monitoring

Sensor Bio said the appointment follows continued expansion of its platform across healthcare, research and enterprise applications. According to the company, its technology is supported by more than 29 peer-reviewed studies and research collaborations with organisations including NASA, Stanford University, the National Institutes of Health and Orlando Health.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Sensor Bio develops clinical-grade continuous biometric monitoring technology that delivers validated physiological data for healthcare providers, researchers and enterprise customers. The platform is designed to support long-term biometric monitoring and data collection across clinical, research and commercial applications.
