Delta Air Lines has announced that Malta will gain its first direct scheduled service to the United States, with nonstop flights from New York beginning in June 2026. The development marks a milestone in Malta’s international connectivity, opening new opportunities for tourism, business, and, importantly, the country’s growing MedTech sector.
Commenting on the development, Dr. Dylan Attard, CEO of MedTech World, noted that direct connectivity with the U.S. represents a major boost for the MedTech community in Malta. He emphasized that it reduces barriers to collaboration and ensures Malta is not only geographically central but also globally connected. According to Dr. Attard, the route will help foster stronger ties with U.S. innovators, investors, and institutions, further strengthening Malta’s position as a hub for healthcare technology.
The launch will provide Malta with a direct gateway to the U.S., home to some of the world’s most influential medical technology hubs, including Boston, Minneapolis, and Silicon Valley. This new accessibility is expected to enhance Malta’s role as an emerging hub for innovation, bridging European and American MedTech communities.
For the Maltese ecosystem, the route goes beyond passenger convenience. It creates a direct corridor for collaboration between Maltese companies, healthcare institutions, and investors with their U.S. counterparts. Startups, researchers, and established players in the industry will now have easier access to partnerships, knowledge-sharing, and capital inflows from across the Atlantic.
This direct service comes at a time when Malta is increasingly positioning itself as a global meeting point for MedTech. Annual gatherings such as MedTech Malta have already been drawing stakeholders from around the world, and improved air links with the United States are set to reinforce this momentum.
With flights scheduled to operate three times weekly starting June 2026, Malta’s visibility on the international stage will continue to grow—not only as a tourism destination but also as a bridge linking Europe and the United States in MedTech innovation.
