For the first time in Malta: Surgeons to train hands-on in endoscopic gastric plication at MedTech Malta 2025 

On November 13, 2025, the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta will host Precision in Practice: Apollo OverStitch Workshop during MedTech Malta 2025. Organised by the Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Society of Malta (LESM), this one-day immersion course introduces the first hands-on Endoscopic Gastric Sleeve Plication (ESG) training session to be held in Malta. 

The workshop will take place at David Bruce Hall and is designed exclusively for specialists in the field. Under the guidance of Course Director Mr. Andrea Formiga, the distinguished faculty includes Dr. Rosario Bellini, Dr. Vincenzo Bove, Prof. Martin Fried, and Mr. Predrag Andrejevic, President of LESM. 

A full day of immersive learning 

The course begins with an introduction to OverStitch system, including an overview of the technology, set-up, and troubleshooting. A hands-on wet lab session in the morning will allow participants to practice full-thickness suturing techniques, followed by an afternoon of one-to-one guided training focused on mastering the complete ESG procedure under expert supervision. The day will conclude with closing remarks and certificate presentations.

Reflecting on the occasion, Mr. Predrag Andrejevic, Consultant Surgeon at Mater Dei Hospital and President of the Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Society of Malta, shared,

In addition to leading the workshop, Mr. Predrag Andrejevic will deliver both the opening speech and closing remarks at the LESM Surgical Conference, themed “Innovation in General Surgery: Today, Tomorrow, and Beyond.” This will be held in Vassalli Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre, on 14 November. Organised in collaboration with Medin Pharma, the conference brings together leading voices to discuss the evolution and innovation of surgical practice.
