Plexāā, the UK-based MedTech company behind BLOOM⁴³, a novel wearable device for breast surgery patients, has secured a $4.5 million funding extension to support its upcoming U.S. commercial launch. The round also sets the stage for Plexāā’s planned Series A raise and expansion into new surgical categories.
BLOOM⁴³ is the world’s first fully wearable prehabilitation device designed to prepare patients for breast cancer surgery and reconstruction. It applies Supraphysiological Preconditioning™, a technique that safely and intermittently heats the skin, triggering the release of heat-shock proteins that promote blood flow. Early proof-of-concept trials suggest the technology may reduce the risk of wound healing complications such as infection, skin necrosis, and the need for revision surgeries — which have been reported in up to 30% of cases.
Alongside its companion app, BLOOM⁴³ guides patients through a holistic pre-op routine focused on surgical readiness and tissue health.
With commercial partners already lined up, Plexāā’s U.S. rollout marks the company’s most significant milestone to date. Founder and CEO Dr. Saahil Mehta credited the team for pushing the platform forward.
“I want to thank our team for the tremendous progress it has made to make this financing possible,” said Dr. Mehta. “Securing this funding validates confidence in our flagship technology and the concept of Supraphysiological Preconditioning™, and it energizes the team as we prepare to bring BLOOM⁴³ to a wider patient population in the U.S. and beyond. The funds will support this pivotal launch and market expansion, as well as the exciting development of our technology platform — including devices and apps targeting additional surgical specialties and creating a whole new category in surgery.”
The company is already exploring the application of its core technology in other areas of surgical care, including orthopaedics, C-sections, and vascular procedures — all with an eye toward making prehabilitation and preconditioning a standard part of the surgical pathway.

Plexāā’s funding extension includes contributions from new and existing investors, including TCP Health Ventures, which led the Seed round, and Thena Capital, a London-based venture firm specialising in digital health and MedTech.
“Since 2023, we’ve been closely tracking Plexāā’s progress and the development of its first device, BLOOM⁴³. We couldn’t be more excited for Plexāā to become our first portfolio company for THENA Capital’s Fund I,” said Tatum Getty, Founding General Partner at THENA Capital.
“The company is solving a critical and under-addressed challenge across the surgical pathway — reducing post-operative complications for patients, which also addresses the impact to both providers and payers.
Saahil and his team bring together clinical, engineering, and operational expertise from some of the UK’s leading institutions. Their bold ambition to scale globally, beginning with an imminent commercial launch in the U.S., is exactly the kind of UK MedTech leadership team we look to champion.”
The round also includes over $1.6 million in i4i grant funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), and $1.3 million from Thena Capital, which is backed by the British Business Bank.
