Wayra and GE Healthcare’s accelerator programme helps start-ups develop AI healthcare solutions

Wayra and GE Healthcare teamed up to launch an accelerator programme in bid to support digital health start-ups in their integration of AI

Wayra and GE Healthcare merge to launch The Edison Accelerator programme, an initiative set to support digital health start-ups apply AI to medical imaging, operations in oncology and to improve overall patient experience.
The programme was introduced in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions for six start-ups. The two parties have stressed that the programme will aim to reach more start-ups in the future.
The start-ups involved will get “access to world-class technical mentorship and business development support”, according to GE Healthcare.
Furthermore, the programme will target three pillars to the start-ups proposition namely: innovation, adoption and integration. After this, the companies who succeed in executing their proof of concepts will be awarded access to GE Healthcare’s Edison platform.
The platform streamlines the design, development and execution of a variety of applications.
In addition to this, the start-ups will also be provided mentors from sectors such as healthcare technology, investment, and businesses development during the programme.
Catherine Estrampes, president and chief executive officer Europe, Middle East & Africa, GE Healthcare, shared in a press release:

The future of innovation will be about working across silos and collaborating across the healthcare ecosystem, including start-ups, research centres, hospitals and clinicians

She continued:

The Edison Accelerator brings together leading technology providers, developers and academic institutions under a single, connected ecosystem to create real impact from the bottom line to better patient outcomes

Bruno Moraes, Country Manager, Wayra UK commented:

The pace of innovation in MedTech is impressive and brings fundamental changes to our healthcare system with better outcomes and tangible impact on our lives. This is an area where we have been very active for several years and this partnership with GE Healthcare and the launching of the EMEA Edison Accelerator represents our strong belief on the impact innovation and digital transformation has in this sector.
