Over three days, attendees were immersed in dialogues, startup pitches, and sessions, all set against the backdrop of Malta’s rich cultural heritage. From exclusive forums and cutting-edge tech demos to an awards gala and lively closing party, MedTech Malta 2024 proved to be more than just a conference—it was a true experience for the global MedTech community.

The event saw diverse participation, with 35% from startups and innovators, 25% from service providers, and 13% from investors, highlighting the focus on new ideas, partnerships, and capital. Government and NGOs made up 12%, while hospitals and physicians accounted for 7%, reflecting growing healthcare involvement. Media represented 4%, with another 4% from various sectors, contributing to the event’s dynamic atmosphere.

Day 0: The Prelude to MedTech World Magic

Even before the official opening, attendees were welcomed to Malta with a special pre-conference day. MedTech World set the tone by offering guests an immersive cultural tour, followed by two exclusive forums: the Investor-Only and CEO-Only gatherings. These invite-only events provided a unique opportunity for top investors and CEOs to discuss critical trends and foster strategic alliances. The day wrapped up with a Pre-registration Reception at the Excelsior Hotel, with support from Lifeblood and Zapyrus, allowing guests to connect and prepare for the busy days ahead.

Day 1: A Grand Opening and Groundbreaking Innovations

The first official day opened with a warm welcome from Dr. Dylan Attard, CEO and Co-Founder of MedTech World, and Giovanni Lauricella, CEO of Lifeblood. Attendees were treated to keynotes from esteemed Malta government officials, including Hon. Dr. Jo-Etienne Abela, Minister for Health & Active Ageing, and Hon. Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects. Industry leaders shared insights on MedTech advancements, setting the stage for the exciting panels that followed.

One of the day’s highlights was the Startup Pitch Competition, organized by Labena Ventures. Ten trailblazing startups competed, each showcasing cutting-edge solutions aimed at transforming healthcare. The €15,000 top prize went to 365care.io for its Telemon app, an innovative platform that uses real-time health tracking and remote patient monitoring (RPM) to support individuals with chronic conditions.

Day 2: Exploring New Frontiers and Celebrating Women in MedTech

Day 2 commenced with an insightful talk from Martin Gomez, Partner at Goodwin, who delved into the legal landscape of the U.S. market, advising on key considerations for MedTech companies looking to expand internationally. This was followed by keynotes from Mr. George Gregory, CEO of Malta Enterprise, and Hon. Dr. Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing.

Adding an extra touch of innovation, Kemtai delivered a Live Technology Demo showcasing their AI-powered motion-tracking platform for fitness and rehabilitation, which provides real-time feedback and is set to make waves in digital health.

Among the day’s highlights was a luncheon hosted by FINN Partners in La Cassiere Hall to celebrate Women in MedTech. Under the theme “Opening the Aperture,” this empowering event encouraged women to broaden their perspectives, embrace their strengths, and support each other in navigating professional and personal challenges.

The day also saw the second Startup Pitch Competition, this time hosted by MedTech World. With a panel of nine expert judges, the competition featured ten revolutionary startups, each presenting innovative solutions. The judges awarded the top prize to John Brumfield, CEO of Berlin Heals Holding AG, whose pioneering C-MIC platform aims to tackle the global heart failure crisis. Using a defibrillator-like lead and patch, this technology generates a microcurrent between the heart’s ventricles, promoting healing and improved function for those suffering from heart failure.

The Grand Finale: Awards Gala and Closing Celebration

The MedTech Malta 2024 summit culminated in a grand Awards Gala, powered by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority, celebrating the industry’s brightest stars across 24 categories. The event was a fitting tribute to the innovation and excellence on display throughout the conference, as awardees were recognized for their exceptional contributions to MedTech.

The three-day summit concluded with a vibrant closing party at Queen Victoria in Valletta, where attendees gathered one last time to celebrate, reflect, and look ahead to the future of MedTech.
