Hon. Dr. Alex Borg, leader of the Maltese Nationalist Party, opened his keynote at MedTech Malta 2025 by celebrating the evolution of the conference from a local startup concept into a global health technology platform. He praised the efforts of MedTech World in bringing together scientists, investors, and innovators worldwide. “It was a moment of pride. Pride not only in what Medtech World had created, but in what Malta represents when we lead with courage and with vision,” Borg commented.

He acknowledged the leadership of Dr. Dylan Attard and the MedTech World team for their role in establishing Malta as a centre of excellence in health innovation. Borg also noted recent support from European Parliament members, underlining the continental recognition Malta’s MedTech sector is gaining.
A central theme in Borg’s speech was the opportunity to diversify Gozo’s economy through medical technology and digital health. He shared insights from his engagement with Gozitan entrepreneurs and local business chambers about transforming Gozo into a thriving hub for MedTech innovation.
He urged stakeholders to “start viewing Gozo’s economy through a new lens,” focusing on creating high-quality jobs and sustainable growth through research and innovation. Borg emphasized collaboration, stating, “Let’s use the talent and experience of companies such as MedTech World to build together a Gozitan economy diversified in medical technology, research, and digital innovation.”
Borg highlighted the importance of international investment, local talent development, and nurturing startups to drive Malta’s MedTech future. “Having more than a third of attendees to such conferences being startups is such an inspiration,” he noted, highlighting the value of entrepreneurship in healthcare technology.
He also commended young leaders like Dr. Dylan Attard, MedTech World’s CEO, as examples of how passion and dedication can turn ideas into global impact. “Do not let anyone tell you that you are too young to lead, too inexperienced to dream, or too small to make a difference,” Borg encouraged the youth audience.

Borg concluded his address by reminding the audience that MedTech innovations must ultimately serve the end user—the patient. “In every innovation, every product, every software, every medication, the most important thing to keep in mind is the end user and the benefit he or she will be receiving.”
He stressed the goal of MedTech to improve health outcomes, prevent diseases, enhance patients’ lives, and make healthcare systems more efficient.
As MedTech Malta 2025 continues to inspire conversations and collaborations, MedTech World is already setting its sights on next year. In 2026, the series will expand across four flagship global destinations, bringing together the brightest minds in MedTech to connect, collaborate, and create meaningful impact.
