Wingwomen Clinches $2M Funding After FemTech Product Award at MedTech World Dubai 2025
Wingwomen Technologies has secured $2 million in investment from private investors to further develop its groundbreaking digital vaginal speculum, NINA. The funding announcement follows the company’s recognition at the MedTech World Awards in Dubai this past February, where it won the FemTech Product of the Year award.
Wingwomen was among eight startups selected from over a hundred applicants to participate in this year’s MedTech World Startup Pitch Competition in Dubai. Wingwomen’s founder Adonica Shaw presented NINA to a panel of distinguished judges with deep expertise in venture capital, investment, and healthcare innovation, impressing them with the device’s potential to transform women’s health.
AI-Powered Innovation in Women’s Reproductive Health
NINA is an AI-powered Class II medical device designed to modernize women’s reproductive health by enabling real-time biodata collection. Traditional vaginal speculums have remained largely unchanged for decades, limiting real-time diagnostic advancements in areas such as fertility treatments, labor induction, and hormone therapy.
By integrating a cloud-based bioinformatics system, NINA processes biodata to generate actionable insights, assisting pharmaceutical companies in refining AMH-related drug therapies, optimizing labor induction medications like Cytotec and Cervadil, and personalizing hormone monitoring for Lupron users. With revenue streams based on data licensing, device leasing, and strategic partnerships, NINA has the potential to accelerate drug development and precision medicine in women’s health.
Expanding Horizons: R&D, Global Markets, and New Solutions
Speaking on how Wingwomen will utilize the funding, Shaw stated:
“The plan is to use the money to establish the company in a few other places, hiring, research and development, and more prototyping. NINA is just one solution, but I’ve redesigned a bunch of gynecological tools. The plan is to see which of the others are viable.”
Wingwomen is exploring opportunities to expand into related healthcare sectors:
“I was also approached by someone who was with Medtronic for several years, and they suggested creating adjacent solutions for urogynecologists as well. I hadn’t considered designing for urology, but they want to come in and provide resources for me to do so.”
With ongoing regulatory shifts in the U.S., Shaw is actively evaluating international expansion opportunities:
“The new administration has been making sweeping changes to government agencies, and many of us don’t know what’s going to happen with the FDA. So, we’re currently looking at other markets to consider. When I was at MedTech World Dubai, someone who took her U.S. company to Abu Dhabi asked me to consider submitting to the tech hub there. They give some money and incubate the company apparently. I’m meeting with her soon to learn more and see what it might look like to work on NINA or any of these adjacent solutions there.”
MedTech World Heads to Houston
Following its success in Dubai, MedTech World is making its way to the U.S., with an upcoming event in Houston on 13 March at Levit Green – Conference Center, Floor 1, 6420 Levit Green Boulevard. Join us as we explore opportunities in the U.S. healthcare sector and discuss the next steps for innovation in MedTech.
